New rules apply to Specialty Coffee Championship

From the November 2011 issue.

As the state competitions start up, a few new rules for this year’s events are worth noting

As our respective football seasons start to wind down and we find the grand finals looming, another competition is about to start. The first of the state Specialty Coffee Championships kicks off in Victoria.

This is the first round of competition that will ultimately decide who will be representing Australia at the World Specialty Coffee Championships in Vienna. Like football, our competition is continually evolving with a few small adjustments to the rules here and there. Every once in a while there is a major change (like we saw in the Latte Art last season). While changes this year have not been as radical, it is still up to all prospective competitors and judges to thoroughly read and understand the new rules.

This time of year is also the reporting season for associations and AASCA is no different. This year we will be holding our Annual General Meeting in Brisbane at 6pm on the 26 November at Dandelion & Driftwood shop 1/45 Gerler Rd Hendra. Formal notice of the event along with the agenda will be sent out with our upcoming email newsletter, along with relevant proxy voting and nomination forms for office bearers. It is your association and I would strongly recommend that you get involved. Voting is restricted to financial members only, so if you want to have a say make sure your membership is up to date.

Similar to the competitions, the best way to find out how things work is get involved, volunteer your time, contact your state co-ordinator and find out how you can help.

Posters and T-shirts this year have been organised on a national level and will soon be available for your state event. The T-shirts will also be available on line through the AASCA website.
