Danes Specialty Coffee crowned Champion Australian Roaster

Danes Specialty Coffee in Sydney has won the title of Champion Australian Roaster for the first time in the 2018 Australian International Coffee Awards (AICA), putting New South Wales in the spotlight for outstanding coffee production.

“To win an award where we are up against the top roasters from our region is a huge deal for us. Every step of the way, we put everything into making our coffee what it is, and we are so proud to take home an award as prestigious as this,” says Paul Jackson, Danes Managing Director.

Sharon Jan of Seven Miles is this year’s recipient of the Eleonora Genovese Women in Coffee Award.

The Alliance For Coffee Excellence (ACE) announced on 27 March the election of four new board members: Keita Matsumoto, Cory Bush, Yuko Itoi and Aleco Chigounis.

This election, voted in by ACE’s members, country partners and head judges, brings the number of formal board members to eleven.

NZSCA on strengthening communities

It’s safe to say 2017 was a stellar year in terms of NZSCA’s competition, training, and fundraising initiatives, but looking ahead at 2018, we’re keen to dig deeper to build and create more inclusive and stronger coffee community than ever before. 

To do that, the NZSCA has been busy collectively working to establish a Coffee Technicians Guild (CTG). Meetings around the three main centres of New Zealand were held to propose the idea, and the reception was popular with this group of previously unrepresented people.
