Coffee industry unites to fight homelessness on 3 August

StreetSmart has announced that CafeSmart2018 will take place on 3 August.

Each year, the coffee community comes together to help raise awareness and vital funds to combat homelessness.

On 3 August, CaféSmart participating cafés will donate $1 from every coffee sold on the day to support local homeless projects in their local suburbs.

La Marzocco launches the 2018 Italian AeroPress Championship

La Marzocco will host the 2018 Italian AeroPress Championship in Milan at the Deus Cafe venue on 1 June.

The World AeroPress Championship (WAC) and Modbar will bring together more than 30 competitors.

The national WAC layover will serve as a platform for brewing trends, sub-cultures, convivial experiences, coffee education and entertainment to blend.

The New Zealand Specialty Coffee Association (NZSCA) has elected a new board at its 2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Queenstown on 25 May. 

Jessica Godfrey will step into the Immediate Past President role, while David Burton of Jack’s Coffee takes over as the new President.

Glenn Bailey of Grinders Coffee set to represent Australia on Barista & Farmer

Glenn Bailey of Grinders Coffee will travel to Colombia to compete as the Australian contestant in the reality show Barista & Farmer, starting 1 June.

Glenn secured the last of 10 spots on the show after winning the cupping and latte art competition at this year’s Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE), and says the opportunity to live on a coffee plantation in Colombia is “every baristas dream”.

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has republished its 2015 White Paper titled Blueprint for Gender Equality in the Coffeelands, now renamed Gender Equality and Coffee: Minimizing the Gender Gap in Agriculture.

The paper was republished on 13 April to mark #EqualPayDay.

World Coffee Championships in Dubai cancelled

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) have mutually agreed not to host the World Coffee Championships at GulfHost in September 2018.

GulfHost was the host event for the World Brewers Cup, World Cup Tasters Championship and World Coffee Roasters Championship, in which Australia’s Heath Dalziel, Yama King and Ben Toovey were competing in respectively.
