2019 World Barista Championship rules and regulations released

World Barista Championship preliminary schedule

World Coffee Events (WCE) has released its updated rules and regulations for the 2019 World Barista Championship (WBC) and World Brewers Cup (WBrC).

The competitions will take place from 10 to 14 April at the Specialty Coffee Expo in Boston, United States. Due to the rapidly approaching date of the expo, WCE says the rules and regulations will be the same as the 2018 rules, with some very minor logistical clarifications.

Individual committees of ex-competitors, judges, staff, and other experts oversee the rules and regulations for each of the World Coffee Championships. These committees hold yearly reviews and update processes. In 2018, the committees were dissolved and are now being re-formed to bring in new members via a public solicitation process.

The memberships of the individual competition committees are in the process of being confirmed, but the over-arching Competition Strategic Committee has worked to develop a strategic plan to guide all of the competitions into the future.

The Competition Strategic Committee is a volunteer leadership team designed to address competition needs and questions at the highest levels, interfacing with the Specialty Coffee Association Board of Directors and other internal and external groups.

The WBC and WBrC committees will be focused on producing new rules for 2020, giving enough time to explore deeper changes. The full 2019 rules and regulations for both competitions are available from WCE’s website.
