CafeSmart, an event by Australian initiative StreetSmart, is returning for its 11th year to raise funds to support community driven organisations and those experiencing homelessness.

CafeSmart is calling out to cafés to join the movement. The event will run from 2 to 8 August, with the main day occurring on Friday 6 August.

The event will see participating cafés and coffee shops putting posters and signage up during the week that contains QR codes which allows any user who scans it to easily donate to the event.

On Friday 6 August, participating cafés will also donate $1 for every coffee sold, with staff and customers encouraged to wear yellow and decorate the café to celebrate the event.

Over the past 10 years, CafeSmart has raised and distributed over $1.5 million to more than 1000 projects.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a difficult time for all, from the coffee community to local homeless charities. As such, CafeSmart looks to support disadvantaged people while bringing fun community spirit back into venues through this event.

Cafés that partake will be featured on the CafeSmart interactive map so coffee drinkers can easily find participating cafés and will be part of the #CafeSmart #helpyourhood social media campaign.

Through taking part in CafeSmart, participants are supporting StreetSmart in achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals that look to reduce inequality and poverty across the globe.

The grants raised through from this event will go towards small, local homeless charities, helping to combat poverty, hunger, social disadvantage, and gender inequality.
