American Express has revealed the six winners of its Backing International Small Restaurants grant program in Sydney, with each business receiving $21,000.
The recipients of the American Express grants are as follows:
- Kabul Social in Barangaroo
- Viand in Woolloomooloo
- Kaska Eatery in Darlinghurst
- Small’s Deli in Potts Point
- Food Addict in Darlinghurst
- IIKO Mazesoba in Haymarket
The program was created in partnership with the International Downtown Association (IDA) Foundation and is supported by Restaurant and Catering Australia.
“We are proud to support a local program backed by a global brand that will help invigorate some incredible local and independent restaurants and keep Sydney’s enviable hospitality industry on the global stage,” says Restaurant and Catering Australia CEO Suresh Manickam.
Sydney was one of five cities globally to be involved in the 2023 program, joining London, Mexico City, Tokyo and Toronto in receiving grants to support independent restaurant and café owners who identify as being underrepresented and/or economically vulnerable.
“Our second year delivering the Backing International Small Restaurants program recognises the vital role small, independent restaurants play in our communities,” says IDA Foundation Executive Director David Downey.
“The program furthers our commitment to supporting the businesses which have been selected, helping them thrive and succeed in the wake of ongoing economic challenges worldwide. It is an honour to implement this innovative work with the generous support of American Express.”
To date, American Express has provided grants to over 100 restaurants globally through the Backing International Small Restaurants program.
