The New Zealand Specialty Coffee Association (NZSCA) is encouraging judges and volunteers to sign up for the Aotearoa Barista Champs 2024, which will take place in Upper Hut, New Zealand, on 5 October.
With the Aotearoa Regional Barista, Latte Art, and Cup Tasters events taking place in Auckland earlier this season, the organisation is now focused on gathering judges and volunteers as well as baristas who wish to participate in the national event. The winner crowned New Zealand Barista Champion 2024 will go on to represent the country at the World Barista Championships in Milan, Italy, in October 2025.
The competition will focus on showcasing excellence in coffee, with competing baristas demonstrating their knowledge and skills in crafting espresso-based drinks across espresso, milk, and signature beverage challenges.
Partners of the Aotearoa Barista Champs 2024 include key coffee players such as La Marzocco, Meadow Fresh, Cafetto, MONIN, and more. Ticket sales for the event close on 6 September, unless sold out prior.
Founded in 2005, the NZSCA aims to represent all shareholders in New Zealand specialty coffee by acknowledging and engaging with a variety of constituents within the sector. In its commitment to promoting the industry, it provides professional development through training, education, and opportunities. From hosting annual competitions, it intends to advance the barista profession and create interest in specialty coffee to the public.
