The Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Board has announced a venue and confirmed dates for the Australian Coffee Championships.
The 2023 Vitasoy Australian Barista Championship and ASCA Australian Brewers Cup Championship will be held from 8 to 12 May at ‘The Industrique’ 5-7 Louvain St, Coburg, North Victoria. The winners of these competitions will represent Australia in the World Championships taking place from 22 to 24 June in Athens, Greece.
ASCA will stagger the opening up of registrations across all regions from 24 March for the Western and Northern Region and 27 March for the Southern and Central Region.
The basic outline of proceedings are as follows and subject to change:
Monday 8 May will include Brewers Judges Calibration and compulsory competitor briefing for all competitors for the Barista and Brewers Cup Competitions. Tuesday 9 May will involve Brewers Open Service Heats Competitor Flight 1 and Brewers Cup Competitor Flight 2 Bump-In. On Wednesday 10 May, Barista will have practice time for the Semi Final (There will be no open heats for Barista) and there will be Brewers Open Service Heats Competitor Flight 2 and Barista Judges Calibration.
Thursday 11 May will include the Barista Semi Final and Brewers Cup Semi Final (Compulsory Service) including the top 12 from open heats. On Friday 12 May baristas will have practice time for the Barista Final, and the Brewers Cup Final (Open Service) including the top 6 from Semi Final will take place. The Barista Final including the top 6 from Semi Final will also take place, as well as the winners announcement, presentation and after party.
