Australian compostable packaging company BioPak was highly commended in the Innovation of the Year category at the Responsible Business Awards 2018.

The Ethical Corporation’s ninth annual Responsible Business Awards ceremony was held in London on 9 October.

“Biopak has created a real alternative to plastic cups, integrating a circular economy approach by making them 100 per cent biodegradable,” says Christine Diamente, Ethical Corporation Awards Chair of the Judging Committee.

“This innovation certainly tackles the global plastic challenge today, it is scalable and can provide huge impact worldwide.”

The Lixil Corporation was awarded Innovation of the Year for its Sato series of toilet and sanitation products.

“We’re incredibly proud of our high commendation, especially with such an innovative and purpose-driven business – Lixil Corporation – taking out the win. It is an honour to be in the same category as them,” BioPak CEO Gary Smith says.

A great variety of different sectors and industries from all over the world were represented. The diversity on display – both in terms of geographical origin and working sphere – demonstrated how delivering a clean, more responsible business future is becoming an international mainstream effort and opportunity.

Other nominees included Unilever, Bridgestone, and Kimberly-Clark.
