Bishal Jang of Malobo Bakery & Terrace has won the South Australian heat of the Milklab Barista Battle series on 29 July at Altura Coffee in Adelaide.
Sokly Chheom of Hello Stranger Café came in second and Xiang Li of Corner Store Café placed third in the final round.
“The Milklab Barista Battle was full of plenty of smiles while we had some delicious food and drinks watching some of the top baristas in Adelaide battle it out for the top prize,” says Ben White, Coffee Reviewer.
“While the latte art was some of the best there is, the Milklab team made a great effort to keep everyone involved with a merch give away between each round. Can’t wait for the 2024 round and hope all the best for all competitors at MICE but rooting for Bishal.”
Participants used the Milklab range of plant-based barista milks throughout the competition.
Bishal finished with 118 points out of 150, thanks to his final pour, which featured a Pegasus latte art design. Sokly finished with a total score of 93, pouring a swan design for her final pour. Xiang’s final pour that earned him third place was a seashorse design, scoring 89 points overall.
Bishal wins return flights to Melbourne, two nights accommodation, and a ticket to the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) where he will compete in the Milklab Barista Battle Australian Final on 17 August from 3pm.
The winner of the Australian final at MICE will also be invited to become a Milklab Master Barista and go on to compete in the international final on 18 August from 3pm.
