The annual CafeSmart campaign began on 12 October 2020. Every year, CafeSmart sees cafés around Australia unite to raise money to combat homelessness.
In most years, $1 for every coffee sold during the one day event was donated to local charities. With many cafes doing it tough in 2020, the event had been adapted to instead run a week long and encourage customers to donate the extra cost of a cup of coffee.
For just $5, customers can help provide support and resources to vulnerable people experiencing homelessness in their local area.
Find your local CafeSmart café on StreetSmart Australia’s interactive map, or donate the cost of a coffee online.
Funds raised from the event, from 12 to 18 October, go towards supporting local, grassroots homeless charities across Australia.
2020 marks the 10th year of CafeSmart. Over the past decade, CafeSmart has raised and distributed more than $1.4 million by bringing together local cafés, coffee businesses, and coffee drinkers. On 16 October, some cafés will also donate either 50 cents or $1 from every coffee sold.
“We look forward to CafeSmart bringing some much-needed community spirit and fun into venues across the country. It’s a great chance for everyone to unite and take action against homelessness, while enjoying their favourite brew,” says Geoff Hills, Chief Operations & Fundraising, StreetSmart Australia.
