The coffee community is set to reunite from 12 to 18 October with StreetSmart Australia’s annual CafeSmart campaign to help act against homelessness in the local community. Café registration closes 2 October.
2020 marks the 10th year of CafeSmart. Over the past decade, CafeSmart has raised and distributed more than $1.4 million by bringing together local cafés, coffee businesses, and coffee drinkers. Across the week, customers can donate the cost of a coffee via a QR code at the register and on 16 October, some cafés will donate either 50 cents or $1 from every coffee sold.
“We look forward to CafeSmart bringing some much-needed community spirit and fun into venues across the country. It’s a great chance for everyone to unite and take action against homelessness, while enjoying their favourite brew,” says Geoff Hills, Chief Operations & Fundraising, StreetSmart Australia.
Workplaces can also host CafeSmart events.
The funds raised go towards supporting homelessness charities in the local neighbourhood of the café or workplace.
“What’s so empowering about CafeSmart is that funds raised are redistributed locally, which means we – and our cafe partners -get to help people in need in our very own communities,” says a spokesperson from Padre Coffee.
StreetSmart Australia is helping its café partners by providing signage and posters which guide customers on how to donate. Website links will also be provided, dedicated to specific cafés.
“It means a lot to have some financial assistance to achieve our mission in breaking the cycles of homelessness. These funds will make a great difference and allow us to train and employ people experiencing homelessness.” Katie Liew, Founder/CEO of Ground and Co.
Alongside BeanScene, CafeSmart 2020 is supported by Vitasoy, La Marzocco, and Broadsheet.
