Campos celebrates 20 years

Campos Coffee will commemorate its 20th anniversary on 1 July. To celebrate, the company is hosting a birthday bash at its flagship café in Newtown on 2 July.

Boasting live music, good vibes, and free coffee all day long, Campos’ Newtown café will be open from 8am to 5pm.

“On 1 July 2002, we installed our beautiful La Marzocco three-group Linea along with two Mazzer grinders on both sides to allow for two baristas to make coffee at the same time. We opened the doors at 6:52am ready to deliver fine espresso to the world. Nothing happened for an agonising 18 minutes,” says Will Young, Campos Founder.

“Then our first customer walked in, a woman who remains a regular customer to this day and I’ll never forget her order, a large skim mocha. She handed over a $20 bill which I still have, and we delivered our first cup to the public at 7:21am.”

Campos Commercial Director John Ronchi says he is incredibly proud of what the company has achieved from its humble beginnings on the streets of Newtown 20 years ago.

“We highly value the incredible partnerships that we’ve fostered over that time, with our café partners all over Australia, our loyal customers who continue to drink enjoy our coffee and with our producers overseas,” says John.

“Over our 20 years, we’ve been honoured to contribute to the local coffee culture, particularly in our hometown of Sydney, as well as being able to participate in the global coffee community by sitting on juries such as Cup of Excellence and Best of Panama.

“As we look forward to the future, we’ll continue to draw on Will’s passion for coffee by pursuing our mission to help everyone love great coffee as much as we do.”
