Host Milano and Poli.Design have awarded 56 companies under three categories with the 2019 Smart Label 2019. Smart Label recognises innovative content, products that change the directions of conventional trends, and those which stand out for their eco-sustainability. Juror Shujoy Chakraborty commented on the strong presence of the coffee industry in the awards.

Renowned coffee producers Aida Batlle of El Salvador and Rachel Peterson of Panama are teaming up for a first of-its-kind collaborative tour to promote some of the most sought-after coffees in the world. Rachel and Aida will visit Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne for four events. Each will include a panel discussion, a question-and-answer session, coffee tastings and a meet and greet, where guests will be treated to cocktails featuring cascara from Aida and Rachel’s farms.

Nomad Coffee Group releases sustainability report

Nomad Coffee Group (NCG) has released details of its Sustainable Coffee Program (SCP) in its 2018 Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility Report. Through the SCP, which has been operating since 2010, NCG pays premium prices for its green coffee, rather than trading on the traditional C Market. By 2023, its goal is to purchase all of its coffee via the SCP.

Starbucks has unveiled its flagship Chinese Reserve store in Tianjin. Located in Riverside 66, a Renaissance-style building constructed in 1921, Starbucks says the store reimagines the nearly century-old heritage site. “Over the past 20 years in China, Starbucks has constantly pushed to innovate and reimagine the Third Place experience, to bring people and communities closer together,” says Leo Tsoi, Senior Vice-President, Chief Operating Officer and President, Starbucks China – Retail.

American coffee chain Bluestone Lane, owned by Australian Nick Stone has launched a new ready-to-drink (RTD) iced coffee and cold brew line. Since opening its first café in New York City in 2013, Bluestone Lane has grown to 45 coffee shop and café locations across seven markets. With the launch of its Australian Iced Coffee and Cold Brew with a Dash product lines, Bluestone Lane says it will now reach consumers United States-wide.
