Women in Coffee united on 30 June to celebrate and network with likeminded industry women.
Knight Mattingly Coffee Roasters and Three Sixty Espresso Academy hosted the evening event on 30 June, which took place at the Locale Lab in Abbotsford, Melbourne.
“These get togethers are a casual and fun opportunity for women in our industry to unite, make connections and share their stories with others,” said Debra Night of Knight Mattingly Coffee Roasters. “Together, women are unstoppable. We just need to support each other.” Read more
The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) has delayed the vote on its proposed unification with the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE) by two weeks after the United Kingdom voted to exit the European Union.
A vote among SCAA members on the proposed unification of their organisation with the SCAE was scheduled to take place from 27 June – 27 July, however those dates have now been moved to 5 July – 5 August. Read more
The Simonelli Group and the University of Camerino in Italy have launched an International Hub for Coffee Research and Innovation.
Announced on 27 June, Simonelli Group says the International Hub was founded to support the entire global coffee chain in raising the professionalism and quality of espresso and cappuccinos, to encourage their consumption around the world, maximum consumer satisfaction, and help develop the market. Tetsu Kasuya of Coffee Factory in Japan is the 2016 World Brewers Cup (WBrC) Champion.
After three attempts at a national title and his first presentation on the world stage, Tetsu can return to Japan with his head held high, in what has been a very successful World of Coffee Show for Japan. Fellow countryman Yoshikazu Iwase of Rec Collective was runner up in the World Barista Championship, just missing out on giving Japan the clean sweep of titles from Dublin. Read more
Berg Wu of Simple Kaffa in Taiwan is the 2016 World Barista Champion.
Berg won the coveted title on 25 June in Dublin, Ireland at the World of Coffee Show. After four days of intense competition from 61 national barista champions, Berg became the 17th coffee professional to win the prestigious coffee event, handing Taiwan its first World Barista Championship (WBC) win. World of Coffee (WOC) has announced the New Product of the Show Awards recognising some of the most exciting new innovations to enter the market over the past 12 months.
The contenders featured a mix of products and services including a robot, cacao tea made with the the most remote and smallest beans, a chocolate bar factory, a new environmentally-friendly black paper coffee bag, and an advanced press-type coffee brewer, just to name a few. Read more
