Matthew Lewin prepares for World Barista Championship

Matthew Lewin of Ona Coffee is getting ready to represent Australia at the 2019 World Barista Championship (WBC) in the United States from 11 to 14 April. Matthew won his first Australian Barista Championship title at the 2019 Melbourne International Coffee Expo in his sixth time competing. He is currently finishing his training with two-time Australian Barista Champion and Ona Coffee co-worker Hugh Kelly before heading to the US at the end of the week.

The United States-based Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) has announced it has appointed Dr Tina Yerkes as its new Chief Executive Officer. “I am honoured and excited to have been chosen to lead CQI into its next phase. There is a great deal of passion in the CQI staff and board, and I am convinced we will grow programs and partnerships significantly over the next several years as we strive for greater impact on coffee quality and the farming communities who depend on this industry for their livelihoods,” Yerkes said.
