Australian Barista Census reveals what keeps baristas up at night
Almond Breeze Barista Blend and BaristasforBaristas.com have released their first Australian Barista Census (ABC), an in-depth study of what worries baristas and how Australia’s coffee scene is setting the pace globally.
Eighty-two per cent of Australian baristas work in an independent café. Almond Breeze says this reflects Australian’s coffee cultural difference to the United States, where 60 per cent of consumers visit a branded coffee shop at least once a month.
Perhaps due to cultural divide, 84 per cent of baristas surveyed said they’d rather work in Australia than anywhere else in the world.

International coffee prices slide in February
According to the International Coffee Organization (ICO) February 2019 market report, the ICO composite indicator fell by 0.9 per cent to 100.67 US cents per pound, similar to levels in December 2018.
This is slightly higher than the lowest monthly average of 100.61 US cents per pound reached in coffee year 2018/19 for December 2018. However, it is 27.5 per cent below the 10-year average of 138.84 US cents per pound.

On 7 March, Minas Hill Coffee will host a cupping session on the coffee trader’s range of Brazilian coffee at its Coburg North, VIctoria warehouse from 5:30pm.
The coffee trader will display coffees from its farming partners including Ismael Adrade, Pedro Gabarra, Gabriel Oliveira, Flowers in Action, Bahia Estate, Bela Epoca, and an assortment of micro-lots.
