ASCA acknowledges Melissa Caia and Lucy Ward with Eleonora Genovese Awards

Melissa Caia and Lucy Ward are the first recipients of the Australian Specialty Coffee Association’s (ASCA) Eleonora Genovese Coffee Women Awards.

In conjunction with the Genovese family, ASCA introduced the Eleonora Genovese Coffee Woman of the Year, and Rising Star Award, to honour the legacy of Eleonora and recognise the women following in her footsteps. Read more

Georgina Lumb of Patio Coffee Roasters wins Australian AeroPress Championship

On the morning of 17 March, Georgina Lumb went to work at Patio Coffee Roasters in Adelaide a Training Manager. That evening, she left Proud Mary Coffee Roasters in Melbourne as the Australian AeroPress Champion.

“How did this happen?” Georgina asked BeanScene post win. “This is crazy. I only get to see my sister in Scotland once every two years and now that I’m going to Dublin I’m so excited I’ll get to see her.” Read more

MICE to crown 2016 Australia Barista Champion

The Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) is currently underway at the Melbourne Showgrounds, with the presentation of the 2016 Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Coffee Champions taking place on 19 March.

The presentation of the Australian Coffee In Good Spirits, Pura Latte Art, Huhtamaki Cup Tasters Championship and Brewer’s Cup will take place on the ASCA stage in the Grand Pavillion at 3pm on Saturday following the final of the Australian Barista Championship. Read more

Australian International Coffee Awards crowns new champions

Bean!Roasters by Cosmorex has been awarded Champion Australian Roaster at the 2016 Australian International Coffee Awards (AICA).

The family-operated business has put Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, in the spotlight once again as a coffee powerhouse. First, with Sasa Sestic of Ona Coffee winning the World Barista Championship in 2015, and now with Bean!Roasters taking the top Australian Roaster award at the AICA. Read more

Harry Ko wins Huhtamaki Cup Tasters

For the second year running Hyunsuk “Harry” Ko from Dukes Coffee Roasters has won the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Huhtamaki Cup Tasters Championship.

The fast-paced packed-out ASCA competition followed Brewer’s Cup at Veneziano Coffee Roasters on 12 March, with fourteen Open Heat competitors taking on the four regional winners. Read more

A jam-packed calendar of coffee competitions continues in Melbourne Coffee Week with two national coffee championship events taking place from 11 – 12 March at Veneziano Coffee Roasters.
