WCR unveils first-ever coffee variety catalogue for Central America

World Coffee Research (WCR) has published the first-ever catalogue of coffee varieties for Central America, called Coffee Varieties of Mesoamerica and the Carribea. 

Launched and presented at Re:Co Dublin on 22 June, the catalogue of Coffea arabica coffees for Central America, Mexico, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica gathers the essential information on 33 major cultivars in the region. Read more

Hugh Kelly, Devin Loong and Georgina Lumb set to shine in Dublin

Ona Coffee Head Barista Trainer Hugh Kelly has arrived in Dublin, Ireland and is ready to represent Australia in the 2016 World Barista Championship (WBC).

The competition is taking place at World of Coffee from 23 – 25 June.

Ona Coffee Founder and 2015 WBC winner Sasa Sestic will soon hand over the crown to a new world champion, and he’s hoping it’s fellow Ona Coffee star Hugh. Read more

Upping the ante

Coffee is evolving. The way it is grown and processed is evolving. The way we roast, extract and drink it is evolving. Most importantly, the general public’s interest and appreciation of specialty coffee is evolving.

As you can then imagine, it was with a dose of shock and horror that I read a comment on a social media platform recently where a respected industry old timer proclaimed that he could not think of a single improvement in the world of coffee since the 1990s. He went on to say that the more the coffee industry descended into mumbo jumbo and alchemy, the less the public would listen. Read more

ASCA is recruiting a Membership Advocate and Head of Roasters Guild on an interim basis. These temporary positions will be voted on at the next ASCA Annual General Meeting (AGM). Read more
