Louis Dreyfus Co donates US$50K to World Coffee Research

Global agricultural goods merchant Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) has announced a US$50,000 donation (about A$64,500) to World Coffee Research (WCR) to boost coffee sustainability and support coffee farmers.

WCR is a non-profit collaborative research and development program of the global coffee industry to grow, protect, and enhance supplies of quality coffee while improving the livelihoods of the families who produce it. Read more

Sustainable Harvest to hold first silent auction

Specialty coffee importer Sustainable Harvest has announced its first silent auction, La Lucha, which will feature micro-lots from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Colombia.

The auction will take place during the Specialty Coffee Expo being hosted from 19 to 22 April in Seattle, United States. Read more

2018 Australian Latte Art Champion Shinsaku Fukayama prepares to do battle at London Coffee Masters

Australia’s Shinsaku Fukayama of St Ali is hoping to add to his winning streak when he competes in London Coffee Masters at The London Coffee Festival this week.

‘Shin’ was crowned the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) 2018 Australian Latte Art Champion at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo in March. He will aim to match the winning experience of former St Ali colleague Ben Morrow, 2016 ASCA Australian Barista Champion, and 2016 London Coffee Masters winner. Read more

The March 2018 Coffee Market Report from the International Coffee Organization (ICO) shows the market continues to decline.

Since August 2017, the ICO composite indicator price has declined in each month except January 2018. Read more

Espresso machine manufacturer, La Marzocco, has opened its first La Marzocco Temporary Café, Fuori Salotto, in the heart of Milan.

For the month of April only, in conjunction with the Salone Del Mobile (Design Week), Fuori Salotto is opening its doors at Behouse – the Milanese venue housing unique lifestyle brands, products and artefacts – in collaboration with Album Lights, and is featuring high-end espresso machines from La Marzocco Home range.  Read more

World Coffee Events (WCE) has released the 2018 World Barista Championship (WBC) teams.

Alongside individual barista performances at the WBC in Amsterdam, taking place from 20 to 23 June, competitors will be grouped into 10 teams as part of the 2018 Teams Competition.  Read more
