Chat with the Champs on 19 October

New Zealand Barista Champion Sam Low of Code Black Coffee will host a Chat with the Champs event in Auckland on 19 October.

The event, taking place at Cerebos in New Market, is designed for anyone who wants to understand and appreciate what goes on behind the scenes of a national and world barista championship. It will feature talks, workshops and group sessions with current NZ National coffee champions including NZ Brewers Cup Champion Ria Mariano-Lingad, Cup Tasters Champion Takahito Koyanagi, AeroPress Champion Woo Hyung Lee and Barista Champion Sam Low himself.

In the evening event, the champions will highlight their experience and journey to the World Coffee Championships. As Sam attests, it’s not just a solid presentation that sees a barista succeed in such events, but months of preparation, training, organisation and support.

“I think the event is a great concept. I hope it will kick off regular events and influence other national champions to do something similar to help promote the competition scene and quality coffee,” Sam said. “The event will provide participants with the chance to literally ‘chat with the champs’.

The event will also showcase rare world competition coffees, prepared and tasted through various brew methods and cuppings from the champions themselves.
