Shinsaku Fukayama of St Ali ready to compete in World Latte Art Championship

Australian Latte Art Champion Shinsaku Fukayama of St Ali is ready to share his talent with the world. The two-time ASCA Australian latte art will make his way to Brazil on 3 November to participate in the World Latte Art Championship (WLAC), taking place at International Coffee Week in Belo Horizonte from 7 to 9 November. “When I said I wanted to be a champion five years ago I meant it,” Shin says. “I’m ready. I’m so close now and extremely happy with what I’ve achieved to get to this point. I’m so happy. I dreamed big and my dream to compete on the world stage is nearly a reality.”

Extraction Artisan Coffee in Logan City, Queensland, has become the first café in the world to install Aremde’s Nexus One coffee machine. Nexus One was designed in the Netherlands and built in Brisbane, under the direction of Aremde Coffee Engineer Geoff Michelmore. Nexus One removes the espresso machine’s wall of steel that traditionally separates the barista from the customer.

Silver Chef report reveals café boom in regional areas

The Silver Chef 2018 Hospitality Industry Success Index report has revealed that almost 10 per cent of Australian cafés, 9.9 per cent, have been in business for less than a year. Of those new cafés, a large number opened in regional centres, with a 16.5 per cent increase is the number of cafés opening in non-urban areas. The report says only 8.9 per cent of cafés have been in business for longer than four years.

Dwigth Aguilar Masias of Nueva Alianzafarm in the Cusco region has won the Perú Cup of Excellence (COE), scoring 91.08 for his washed Geisha coffee. Damián Espinoza García of La Palmafarm in Cajamarca placed second with his washed Yellow Caturra scoring 89.85. Franklin Chinguel Morales of El Romerillofarm in Cajamarca placed third with his washed Bourbon scoring 89.58.
