WCE to host judge certification ahead of World Coffee Championships in Brazil

World Coffee Events (WCE) will host a WCE Judge Certification in São Paulo, Brazil, from 2 to 3 November. Participants will demonstrate their skill and knowledge during a two-day test.  WCE Committee Leadership will guide participants through a series of performance-based and written tests that measure a judge’s ability to perform successfully in a WCE competition.

Ona Coffee to host WBC-winning coffee cupping

Ona Coffee Marrickville will host a cupping session of Project Origin’s Carbonic Maceration (CM) Selections series on 2 October. The cupping session will allow participants to taste coffees from the different categories of the CM series, including Jasper, Indigo and Diamond coffees. CM Selection coffees exist in washed and natural processes and involve the careful control of specific yeasts during fermentation to create particular flavour experiences.

The finalists for Coffee Masters – New York 2018 have been announced, including Australia’s Brittany Gunther of Grinders Coffee. Brittany will compete for the grand prize of US$5000 (approximately $6885) at The New York Coffee Festival, taking place from 12 – 14 October. Other finalists include Anthony Knauf of Black Sheep Coffee in New Zealand and numerous baristas from Europe as well as North and Central America.

Family-owned Perth café Caffn8 is giving customers 10 per cent off their coffee when they display a receipt for a strawberry purchase they made that day. The promotion comes after a rash of incidents across Australia of people finding sewing needles inserted into strawberries. The contamination scandal has caused a crisis within the strawberry farming industry, with multiple businesses forced to recall products.
