Callebaut unveils new variety: Ruby RB1

Ruby RB1 is the first new variety of chocolate to be discovered in 80 years. The fourth type of chocolate, is the latest addition to the well-known milk, dark, and white chocolate categories. Callebaut chocolate is the first in the world to launch this new variety. The new chocolate’s sparkling ruby colour occurs naturally from the ruby cocoa bean, and surprises with intense fruitiness and fresh, sour notes.

BioPak teams up with Perth cafés to launch coffee cup composting service

Perth cafés can avoid sending their takeaway coffee cups to landfill with the launch of BioPak’s national composting service. Under the service, customers will be able to dispose of used BioPak coffee cups and compostable takeaway food packaging in specially designed collection bins placed at local cafés or workplaces in Western Australia. The special compost bins will be collected weekly and sent them to commercial facilities to be composted. In eight weeks, the biodegradable products will be turned into nutritious soil compost for gardens or farms.

Study shows coffee drinkers may boost longevity 

The results of a new decade-long study suggest that drinking coffee could lead to a longer life expectancy. The research, published on 2 July in the JAMA Internal Medicine journal, suggests that moderate amounts of coffee a day can improve longevity. Researchers studied a cohort of half a million British adults over a decade: 498,134 women and men aged between 38 to 73 who voluntarily registered with the UK Biobank genetics database.
