World Coffee Championships in Dubai cancelled

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) have mutually agreed not to host the World Coffee Championships at GulfHost in September 2018. GulfHost was the host event for the World Brewers Cup, World Cup Tasters Championship and World Coffee Roasters Championship, in which Australia’s Heath Dalziel, Yama King and Ben Toovey were competing in respectively.

First-time competitor wins Mexican Cup of Excellence

A first-time competitor won first place in the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) sixth edition of the Cup of Excellence (COE) in Mexico City on 18 May. Jose Renteria Larios ranked first with a 90.70-point coffee from Finca Peña Blanca in Jalisco, with a natural processed coffee with a blend of Sarchimor, Marsellesa and Caturra.

Ona Coffee Marrickville to feature frozen coffee menu

Ona Coffee Marrickville is set to open its doors on Saturday 26 in Sydney, with frozen coffee on the menu.  The space will house offices, a training facility and an espresso bar featuring frozen doses of coffee. Freezing coffee is increasing in popularity in the specialty coffee world, with the majority of the finalists of the 2017 World Barista Championships incorporating frozen coffee into their performances.
