Dessert master Darren Purchase of Burch & Purchese Sweet Studio has five key ingredients to hosting the perfect morning tea.
1. Rally friends, family or work colleagues together
2. Serve delicious coffee, or tea
3. Display tasty food items that create a talking point. Consider baking something with texture and colour.
4. Create a fun environment to chat or network
5. Raise funds for an amazing cause, such as Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
The celebrity chef is a Cancer Council ambassador and is looking forward to supporting this year’s event on 26 May.
“Dessert is close to my heart, but so is this event. I get asked to support many events, but this is one I really wanted to focus my attention on. I’m so happy to be involved,” Darren said.
“With Australia’s love of coffee perhaps it should be renamed Australia’s Biggest Tea and Coffee, but at the end of the day, what’s important is raising education and funds for a worthy cause. There’s frightening statistics of people diagnosed with cancer each year, so the more we can get together, talk about health issues and raise much-needed funds the better. No matter if the donations are big or small, every bit adds up and will contribute to one of Cancer Council’s largest fundraising events of the year.”
Darren did a test-run of his ideal morning tea on 3 May at the Jura Hospitality Centre. For the first year Jura Australia will partner Cancer Council and its iconic charity event, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
Jura Australia’s George Liakatos says he’s proud to be supporting the event on a national level. “I’m sure we all know someone who has been been affected by cancer in some way, so this is our way of supporting an event that resonates with so many people,” George said. “Australia’s love entertaining people, so why not do it for a great cause like Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.”
All funds raised from morning tea’s held will be put towards Cancer Council’s cancer research, prevention programs, and support services for cancer patients and their families.
