Detpak supplies Australia’s largest ever marathon with paper cups

Detpak has supplied Australia’s largest ever marathon with RecycleMe paper cups for all race participants on 13 October.

More than 37,000 people ran the Melbourne Marathon and used more than 200,000 paper cups, which equates to about 50 trees worth of paper fibre.

“We were looking for a long-term solution for takeaway coffee cups and the RecycleMe program is one step closer to contributing to global environmental change,” says Tom Lunn, Detpak General Manager of Marketing and Innovation.

All the cups disposed into bins and drink stations at the event were delivered to a paper recycling facility by Shred-X facility. Here they will be recycled into new paper products, that can be recycled up to seven times.

“Helping to create a closed-loop recycling process at Sunday’s event further cements the value and credibility of the RecycleMe system,” says Van Karas, Shred-X General Manager.
