Double Shot and Western Regionals to take over Adelaide

Double Shot Coffee Fiesta is taking place in Adelaide this weekend, with the Western Region Coffee Championships running in conjunction with the event on 28 February.

Kicking off at 10am on Sunday, the City of Churches will transform its Soldiers Memorial Garden in Unley into a caffeinated hive of activity.

“Some of the regions best cafés and roasters will be set up on the outskirts of the picturesque gardens, for our community celebration of coffee,” said Double Shot Event Manager, Carly Smith. “The festival is very much about giving the people of Adelaide the chance to meet their local baristas and ask questions of the people who are producing their daily cup.”

The Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Barista Championship will kick off competitions in the Unley Town Hall at 9am, the Huhtamaki Cup Tasters Championship and Pura Milk Latte Art Championship will follow.

Winners of Sunday’s event, which will be announced on the festival’s main stage at 3:45pm, will have the opportunity to fly to Melbourne in March to compete in the Australian National Championships. The top scoring baristas in the national competitions will represent Australia in the world championships in Shanghai and Dublin later this year.

For the first time this year at Double Shot, Monastery Coffee, a small batch specialty coffee roaster based in Adelaide, will set up a brew bar to demonstrate alternative brewing methods. The gardens central rotunda will provide the backdrop for the coffee bar, with Monastry Owner and 2015 South Australian Cup Tasting champion Adam Marley on-hand to talk coffee.

Double Shot visitors can escape Sunday’s expected warm weather in a new chill out zone, featuring a cold brew bar, DJ photo booth and funky outdoor furniture.

Foodies will be catered for too, former MasterChef contestant Carly Smith’s, The Middle Store will operate a pop up, as well as a number of other gourmet food stalls and food trucks.
