Enter Instagram summer dining competition

Café diners are encouraged to snap, share, and savour outdoor dining experiences this summer with the launch of the Savour Summer Instagram competition.

The diner who best encapsulates the theme of summer dining will go in the draw to win two return tickets to Seoul, Korea, courtesy of Singapore Airlines.

Last year’s competition in association with Restaurant and Catering Australia (R&CA) saw more than 600 Instagram entries from across Australia, with Adelaide-based food writer Duy Dash winning a trip to Japan to dine in Luke Mangan’s restaurant Salt, Tokyo.

“Australians love to share their food experiences online. Food envy is a great motivator, it encourages diners to get out more and try new places. This in turn is good news for operators seeking to make the most of the summer trade,” says R&CA CEO John Hart.

“Summer is a great way of capturing people seeking to enjoy time off and leisure activities in the sun. Outdoor dining is no exception. But we need to make it easier for operators to offer alfresco options.”

John says if local councils made it easier and more cost effective for operators to offer alfresco dining, Australia’s café culture would grow tenfold.

“Alfresco dining should be a no-brainer for most operators, but sadly red tape and restrictive fees often reduces the appetite for outdoor dining. Our climate is envied the world over. We want our alfresco dining scene to be the talk of the town too,” he says.

The #SavourSummer competition closes 28 February 2017. The competition is open for any photograph taken at an Australian café or restaurant this summer.

Photos must be tagged #SavourSummer or #SavourSunshine, have the establishment location tagged, and be registered on the campaign website for the chance to win.
