Harry Ko wins Mazzer ZM Filter Cup

Harry Ko of Bennetts Coffee has won the Mazzer ZM Filter Cup competition in Melbourne on 14 November.

Tomohiko Kushida was runner-up at the event, held at Locale Coffee Roasters’ Abbotsford venue.

Locale Coffee Roasters collaborated with Genovese Coffee to host the competition, which pitted 24 contestants against each other over six heats. Contestants were given seven minutes to grind, brew, and serve their coffee.

A panel of experienced industry judges adjudicated the event, including 2018 Australian Roasting Champion Ben Toovey, 2016 United Kingdom Brewers Cup Champion Jeremy Challender, and Authorised Specialty Coffee Association Trainer Simon James.

Winners of each heat progressed to the next round in an elimination format, with the top two eventually facing-off in the final round.

Harry, who placed second in the Australian Specialty Coffee Association 2020 Southern Region Brewers Cup won the final round, he won a Mazzer ZM grinder valued at more than $4500.

Runner-up Tomohiko took-home a selection of Panama Geshas, merchandise, and a year’s subscription to Barista Hustle.
