CafeSmart Campaign and Events Coordinator Liz Bayrak reveals how taking part in the annual campaign can give your café a boost.
For café owners, the power of a strong community is undeniable. As the hospitality industry continues to recover from the economic impacts of recent years, and as the number of individuals experiencing homelessness remains high, the importance of community support has never been greater. Enter CafeSmart, the much-loved annual event by StreetSmart Australia, back for its 14th year from 10 to 16 August. It’s a golden opportunity for cafés to not only do some good but also give their business a solid boost.
It’s no secret that CafeSmart is all about taking action against homelessness. Participating cafes transform into hubs of community spirit, raising awareness and funds for the thousands of Australians at risk. But the event is also bringing much needed business, life, and local support to hundreds of cafés and small businesses.
During the week-long campaign, cafés can expect a surge in foot traffic and customer engagement, often translating into higher sales and increased customer loyalty. Increasingly, café goers want more than just a great cup of coffee: they seek out businesses aligned with their values. CafeSmart provides a platform for cafés to showcase their commitment to social impact, helping turn one-time visitors into loyal regulars.
CafeSmart’s widespread appeal often attracts media attention. A café’s participation can land it social media buzz and mentions in press releases, all of which can enhance its visibility and reputation. Being a part of an industry recognised event that sees hundreds of cafés rallying for an end to homelessness also doesn’t go a miss. It’s a chance to connect with industry peers, give back, and be part of something bigger.
CafeSmart’s localised impact also serves as a powerful motivator for staff and customers alike. Collaborating on a common goal can only further enhance morale. Employees can take pride in knowing that their café is making a tangible difference, right in their local community.
“I am so lucky to work with a group of people who are always advocating for and diligently working towards better ethical and environmental practice. We have a culture within the Locale family that encourages thinking outside the box and considering where we can add value to our customers and our larger coffee community” says Rachel Commander, WA State Manager of Locale Espresso.
“With our beautiful and generous customer base I knew it would just be a case of ‘hey! stop what you’re doing and check this out!’ and never a question of whether they wanted to be part of this wonderful cause.”
650 cafes around the country are gearing up to take action against homelessness, but there is still time to be a part of this coffee movement. Head to the CafeSmart website to sign up now.
