The Cup of Excellence (CoE) and the Specialty Coffee Association of Indonesia (SCAI) have announced 26 Cup of Excellence and six National Winner coffees in the first-ever Indonesia Cup of Excellence.

The winners showcased the diversity and potential of Indonesian coffee, representing eight islands and offering a wide array of varieties and processes.

Dilen Ali Gogo’s honey process Ateng, Gayo One and P88 blend from Pantan Musara, Aceh province took first place with the highest score of 89.28.

“The number of participants shows that the producers are excited and are interested in this program, despite the challenges we are having to socialise the program itself, especially during the pandemic,” says president of SCAI Daryanto Witarsa.

“Hopefully, in the upcoming years, we will see more participants, and more well-prepared coffees.”

“This historic moment for CoE and for Indonesia marks our program’s first time in this part of the world,” says CoE and Alliance for Coffee Excellence Executive Director Darrin Daniel.

“We are very happy by the response as well as the quality of coffees entered from this very special coffee origin.”

The Cup of Excellence auction will be held on 27 January 2022, and the National Winner Auction will run from 24 January to 4 February 2022.

Though some producers have already seen results from their participation in the first Indonesia Cup of Excellence.

“We have some producers, cooperatives being contacted by new local buyers and also some international buyers, especially after the winner announcement,” says Andi Widjaja, Indonesia CoE Country Coordinator.

“The program is a great way to introduce transparency and traceability and promotes a sustainable industry.”

Sample sets are sold out, however, buying groups are now forming.

Samples delivery and lot delivery are handled by PT Indokom Citra Persada as the official exporter of Indonesia CoE 2021.
