At his Brisbane venue, Adam Wang aims to curate the best of what Australia has to offer under one roof. Inter/Section began as multi-roastery café Coffee Anthology, showcasing the country’s specialty coffee scene.
It has since expanded to include The Whisk, offering fine and creative croissants and patisserie, as well as Fika, which serves Asian-fusion dishes.
“Inter/Section is one unified space that incorporates everything from local and international coffee, pastries, breakfast, and lunch – all in one venue,” says Adam.
Set in a heritage-style building, the venue design is a blend of classic, contemporary, and sleek.
Adam established Coffee Anthology 10 years ago when the concept of multi-roastery cafés wasn’t widespread.
“I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if I could have one shop where we could showcase a variety of rotating roasts from across the country?’ This way, customers wouldn’t have to go out of their way – they could come to one place and try all the great coffees.”
Now, Coffee Anthology visitors can enjoy coffee by Cavalier, Black Mass, and Talo from Brisbane, Small Batch and Market Lane from Melbourne, Sample Coffee from Sydney, and Unison Coffee from Newcastle, among others.
“You can come in and try both our own roasts and some of the local and international roasts we carry,” says Adam.
“We have two bars: one focuses on local coffees and the other serves international roasts. So, every day customers have a broad selection to choose from.”
As a long-time supporter of La Marzocco, Adam says the Strada EP espresso machine is ideal for showcasing different coffees and allowing for precise control over brewing.
In 2024, Inter/Section also acquired the first Strada X in the Southern Hemisphere.
“It was a game-changer for us and has made a huge difference, especially with high traffic and given us the control and consistency we wanted,” he says.
“Now, we have both machines on either side of the bar. It’s been a great combination to keep things running smoothly.”
