Italian food precinct il Mercato Centrale has officially launched its food hall and market at 546 Collins Street, Melbourne.

The opening of the outlet marks the brand’s first global expansion outside of Italy and aims to provide authentic Italian culinary offerings, free community events, and monthly artisan masterclasses.

“The goal has always been to create more than just a food hub. We set out to build an immersive cultural destination, where people can enrich themselves in the vibrant community and Italian essence of il Mercato Centrale, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the result,” says Gary Patikkis, il Mercato Centrale Melbourne General Manager.

The food hall features everything from pastries, cakes and breads to fresh pasta and pizza. Visitors have the opportunity to enjoy the food with locally roasted Lavazza coffee at il caffè by Jerry Lee, which showcases the roaster’s new Mosaic line of blends.

“Each of our artisans brings something truly special to the table and it’s their dedication to quality and collaboration that creates an unforgettable atmosphere. We couldn’t be prouder to finally unveil this project and can’t wait for the community to experience the incredible offerings,” says Gary.

In addition to providing Melburnians with a range of Italian cuisine and beverages under one roof, the new venue aims to demonstrate the craftsmanship and rich history of Italian food and to contribute to the economic growth of the city.

“Italian cuisine has an ancient history that has shaped the ability of its people to transform food, which is why it is considered by some to be the best in the world,” says il Mercato Centrale Founder and President Umberto Montano.

“The most distinctive of its traits is craftsmanship. The key ingredient is in the hands of those who pluck, produce, knead, and cook; a combination of love and care that generates a quality that I define as ‘passionate’.”

il Mercato Centrale is open seven days a week. Opening times are Sunday to Thursday 7am to 10pm, and Friday to Saturday 7am to 12am.
