IWCA Australian Chapter to host Queensland origin trip

The International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA) Australian Chapter formation will host its second origin trip from 29 March to 2 April – this time to far North Queensland.

Women and men of the coffee community are invited to explore Queensland’s coffee growing regions and the people and communities that make it such a unique part of Australia’s coffee identity.

“This event is ideal for those who have always dreamt of travelling to origin but haven’t made it happen just yet,” says trip organiser Christine Cottrell. “Now’s the time to do it – who says origin has to involve going overseas?”

On Tuesday 29 March guests will café hop around Cairns prior to gathering for dinner at Salthouse on the waterfront.

On Wednesday 30 March, travellers will make their way to the Atherton Tableland, along the way visiting Kuranda, Jacques Coffee Planation, and Howe Farming Co before ending a busy day in Yungaburra.

On Thursday 31 March guests will spend most of the day visiting more coffee farms before enjoying the historic village of Yungaburra. This jam-packed itinerary will include a visit to NQ Gold Coffee Planation and Skybury Plantation.

The morning of Friday 1 April will be devoted to World of Coffee in Mareeba, exploring Ian Bersten’s collection of coffee equipment. To break coffee proceedings, a visit to De Brueys Winery will give visitors the change to sample tropical fruit wine, followed by a visit to Mount Uncle Distillery for more tastings.

The last day of the trip on Saturday 2 April will be a dedicated foodie day, focusing on local produce in and around the Tableland, finishing up in Cairns for a farewell dinner. Cheese lovers will appreciate a visit to Malanda Dairy and Gallo Dairyland for tastings, followed by a stop at Love Lee, who specialise in organic local bush food in the Atherton region.

The IWCA Australian Chapter Formation will also host a formal meeting and networking breakfast on 18 March at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo.
