Maria Paoli launches Australian Women in Coffee Association

Maria Paoli, host of Melbourne’s café tours, launched the Australian Women in Coffee Association on 11 May at Axil Coffee Roasters.

The new entity will serve as a networking group that recognises the contributions of women to the Australian coffee industry, and supports their continued growth.

“It’s about being here, never forgotten. This is how I see Australian women in coffee – taking our past to our future,” Maria said at the opening event.

Around 20 women attended the launch, including a strong representation from major roasting companies such as DiBella Roasters, Mocopan, Genovese, Dimatinna, and Quists Coffee.

Maria took the opportunity to recognise the early contributions of women in these major operations in setting up Australia’s coffee industry.

In addition to recognising the contributions of women in the past, Maria noted the new group will particularly focus on women working in rural areas, who are running businesses in isolation with less support than urban centres.
