The 2022 Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) has announced a record 15,056 attendees visited the expo over four days from 27 to 30 September at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The expo welcomed more than 1500 internationals from 71 countries, indicating a strong return of international participation.

The attendance figure is the highest of any MICE expo since the event’s inception in 2012, with an increase of 25 per cent of visitor numbers at the 2019 event.

“MICE was already the largest dedicated coffee expo in the Southern Hemisphere, and we are proud to reinstate that title once again, in addition to being our highest attended edition of the expo to date,” says MICE Show Director Lauren Winterbottom.

“We are thrilled so many people chose to support this industry event here in Melbourne. We welcomed local, interstate, and international guests, all of which has not been possible over the past three years, so to see such a huge congregation of visitors from across the globe is truly wonderful. It’s recognition that industry events such as MICE, are back to the pre-COVID status they deserve to be.”

To top of the industry’s celebration of coffee, equipment and café supplies, Australia’s Anthony Douglas of Axil Coffee Roasters was crowned the 2022 World Barista Championship (WBC) on the final day of MICE, becoming the first in WBC history to be crowned a winner at a home-run event.

MICE will return in 2023 from 17 to 19 August.

Until then, Show Director Lauren thanks those who attended and helped make this the biggest MICE yet.

“MICE2022 was one big reunion and celebration of the Australian and global coffee industry. We’re incredibly proud of the success of this year’s show,” says Lauren. “We’ll be back next year to do it all again and continue to celebrate our wonderful coffee industry.”
