MilkLab has announced its Barista Battle will return this year to celebrate Australia’s latte art talent using using the MilkLab range of plant-based barista milks.

The Barista Battle series will run heats in six states across Australia in August 2022.

For each state event, there will be 24 baristas, four rounds and one winner. Baristas will compete head-to-head in a bracket-style knock-out tournament. The best pour, decided by an expert panel of judges, will go on to the next round.

First-place winners will receive a pass to MICE to represent their state at the national final, plus paid flights and accommodation to Melbourne for three nights. The Melbourne winner will get a pass to MICE and a $500 MasterCard gift card in place of flights and accommodation.

The winner of the Australian final at MICE will be invited to become a MilkLab Master Barista and go on to compete in the international final against MilkLab Master Baristas from other countries for the chance to win a trip for two to London Coffee Festival 2023.

Competitor tickets are $15 each. These are strictly limited as only 24 participants can compete at each event.

All competitor ticket sales will be donated to the Wise Barista Program, to help support the training of individuals facing barriers to employment to become baristas.

The first state heats begin on 8 August at Au79 café in Victoria and Kaltiva Coffee Roasters in Western Australia. The New South Wales state heat will take place on 11 August at The Goodsline and the Australian Capital Territory heat will take place on 24 August at East Row Specailty Coffee. The Queensland state heat will take place on 25 August at Elixir Coffee and the South Australia heat will take place on 27 August at Veneziano Coffee Cafe.
