Milklab is bringing back the International Barista Battle, a knock-out style and online-based latte art competition, in 2025.

The 2025 Milklab Barista Battle will enable baristas from all over Australia to showcase their skills and creativity in an online latte art forum hosted on Instagram and TikTok from 6 to 31 January 2025.

The barista with the best pour uploaded to Instagram or TikTok using Milklab, as decided by Milklab’s expert panel of judges, will represent their state in the national finals.

The eight state winners will win a trip to the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) to compete in the National Milklab Barista Battle final on 21 March. The grand champion will pick up a $3000 prize and be invited to become a Milklab Master Barista.

The winner will also have the opportunity to compete in the International Milklab Barista Battle Final held at MICE on 22 March to win a trip for two to Switzerland.

Barista Battle 2024 Champion Ryan Nguyen of ONA Coffee House Fyshwick in Canberra says winning the competition and becoming a Milklab Brand Ambassador gave him a great opportunity to work with one of the biggest milk companies in Australia.

“It also opened opportunities for me and a chance to improve and learn from experts in the industry,” he says.

“It’s been a great experience. A well-organised competition, with well-known judges who made reputable decisions on competitors. The whole event at MICE was amazing especially the opportunity for those who are new to latte art to help learn and improve their skills as well as open up connections with the rest of the industry.”
