Mohammed ‘Rizky’ Ramadani of Offshoot Coffee won the Western Australian heat of the Milklab Barista Battle series on 27 July at Dimattina Coffee in Perth.
Chuyun Yao (Lucy) of Game City Espresso Bar came in second and Fletcher Markham of Felix & Co. placed third in the final round.
“It was an amazing night with a great turn out, and an insanely close final. It’s crazy how good baristas have gotten at latte art, especially with Milklab alternative milks,” says event judge and Head Roaster at Dimattina Coffee Paul Markou.
Participants used the Milklab range of plant-based barista milks throughout the competition.
Rizky finished with 123 points out of 150 thanks to his winning pour of a bunny latte art. Lucy’s zebra design earned her an overall score of 112 points and Fletcher’s seahorse granted him an overall score of 110.
The event housed 100 guests including baristas and spectators who came to support the community.
Rizky wins return flights to Melbourne, two nights accommodation, and a ticket to the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) where he will compete in the Milklab Barista Battle Australian Final on 17 August from 3pm.
The winner of the Australian final at MICE will also be invited to become a Milklab Master Barista and go on to compete in the international final on 18 August from 3pm.
