Attend Knowledge Talks with WBC emcee Stephen Leighton

From the November 2017 issue.

Toby’s Estate will host its final Knowledge Talks series for the year next week, featuring guest speakers Stephen Leighton of Has Bean Coffee and Anabella Meneses of Santa Felisa Coffee.

Stephen was last in Australia to emcee the 2014 World Barista Championship (WBC) in Melbourne, and he's returning as the guest star of Knowledge Talks, an educative platform that invites world leaders of the coffee industry to share their experiences with Australian audiences.

He will use his iconic emcee voice to take audiences behind the scenes on what really happens at origin, and talk about the human aspect of coffee and what’s important to farmers.

Stephen works directly with more than 30 coffee producers in the world. He invests in experimentation to understand what quality is possible in a given soil or region through improved science, processes, agronomy and support.

Stephen is also the co-creator of Tamper Tantrum, Co-owner of 3fe in Dublin with Colin Harmon, and Co-owner of Drop Coffee in Stockholm.

Audiences will also be treated to a special guest apperance by Anabella, the winner of the 2017 Guatemala Cup of Excellence and founder of Las Nubes Daycare. She will share with audiences about what sustainable coffee communities mean to the whole coffee supply chain and what their needs are.

All proceeds from Knowledge Talks ticket sales will be donated to the Las Nubes Daycare and Afterschool-Learning Centre. The centre supports the education of over 40 children aged between three and 12 in the coffee community of Acatenango. On a daily basis the centre provides much needed education, nutritional meals and a safe and nurturing environment while allowing the parents to continue working or to complete their education.
