Daiki Uematsu of Japan wins Monin Creativity Cup International Final

From the November 2017 issue.

Daiki Uematsu of Japan has won the Monin Creativity Cup International Final in South Korea.

Jale Anthony Shanthos of the United Arab Emirates was runner up, and Yuki Wong of Hong Kong was third place in the international final, which took place on 8 November in Seoul.

The Monin Creativity Cup has taken place every two years since 2013. It invites participants from all over Asia Pacific and Middle East, with the aim to bring together young professionals from 17 to 27 years of age who share a passion for coffee.

In the competition, 15 baristas prepared one espresso-based signature drink and flavoured with Monin ingredients, with creativity the key to a successful recipe.

The last six baristas undertook a Mystery Box Challenge and were judged on cleanliness, technical skills, creativity and appealing presentation.
Australian representative Jisun Jo of Muffin Break finished in seventh place after a strong performance.

"Jisun showed great barista skills and made us all very proud in Korea,” says Tomas Vikario, Monin Marketing and Beverage Innovation Manager – Australia & Pacific Islands. "Australia was once again in the top of the world coffee tournaments, which is great achievement."

The Burwood Plaza store Head Barista won the Australian Monin Creativity Cup final earlier this year, beating 15 other Muffin Break and Jamaica Blue baristas to take the national title. She presented a signature drink titled Popcorn Espanner, made of Monin Popcorn syrup, flavoured cream, sparkling water, and Foodco Group’s espresso blend.

Seoul is a buzz with events this week, with the World Barista Championship (WBC) also taking place, where Monin is a proud bronze sponsor of the event.
