French Barista Champion Charlotte Malaval joins Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters

From the February 2017 issue.

Two-time World Barista Championship finalist and French Barista Champion, Charlotte Malaval, will be joining the Australian-based Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters as its new green bean buyer.

“We’re thrilled to have Charlotte come on board as her appointment really shakes up the status quo when it comes to the traditional notions around what a green bean buyer should be and do within a specialty coffee roaster,” says Cosimo Libardo, Managing Director of Toby’s Estate.

"Not only does Charlotte know how and where to procure beautiful coffees, but she has in-depth knowledge of new and emerging processing methods and understands their effects on cup profiles."

As an authorised Specialty Coffee Association of Europe trainer, Charlotte will not only be building upon Toby’s Estate’s coffee offering, but also working alongside its team in a training capacity to further develop its reputation as a knowledge leader in the specialty coffee space.

“It’s going to be a big move from France to Australia, but I’m so excited to join the Toby’s Estate team and really hit the ground running,” Charlotte says.

“Toby’s Estate already has great micro-lot coffees on offer and a foundation for serious specialty coffee training, so I’m looking forward to growing its coffee offering and working with the team across all aspects of coffee."

Charlotte brings with her significant experience in working with farms at origin, across quality and research, and has considerable experience following coffees from cherry to roasted beans and determining cup quality, along with finding the right applications for the selected coffees and creation of blends.

Charlotte will also be part of the Toby's Estate team exhibiting at MICE2017.

Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of coffee globally with a focus on innovation, sustainability and knowledge.
