Monin and Mr Black to host Baristas vs Bartenders national tour

Monin and Mr Black are inviting the country’s best baristas to go head-to-head with the industry’s most skilled bartenders to see who can produce the best coffee and cocktails.

In the ultimate showdown against two sides of the hospitality industry – morning vs night professions – competitors will have six minute to complete two coffee-influenced drinks in front of judges – one alcoholic and one non-alcoholic coffee drink.

The cocktail must feature at least 20 millilitres of Mr Black. The second drink is to feature at least 10 millilitres of Monin syrup.

“The Bartenders vs Baristas competition is an arm of Monin’s global Coffee Creativity Cup contest, which was created as a platform for young, up and coming bartenders and baristas to compete in an encouraging, creative and welcoming environment,” says Tomas Vikario, Stuart Alexander’s Beverage Innovation Manager.

“This competition helps provide an even playing field for those bartenders who want to break into competition bartending, and let their creativity loose with one of the world’s most versatile products. We are looking forward to unearthing some serious talent throughout the country this year, and taking someone truly inspirational to Seoul to represent Australia on the Asian stage.”

Melbourne’s Baristas vs Bartenders competition will take place on 8 May, with entries now open until 1 May.

Sydney will host the same event on 27 May, Brisbane on 26 June, and Perth at a date to be confirmed soon. 

A winner from each state event in each category – cocktail and signature coffee drink – will be determined.

The winners will represent their state at the finals, to be held later in the year.

The national titleholder will have the opportunity to represent Australia at the Monin Coffee Creativity Cup in Seoul, Korea, taking place the same week of the World Barista Championship in November 2017.

Applicants must be over 18 years old from the date of submission, and 27 years old or under, as of 12 November, 2017. Eligible participants must be currently working in a bar or café in one of the states the competition will be hosted (for preliminary rounds).
