From the October 2017 issue.

The Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) has reached out to Puerto Rican and Mexican coffee producers affected by recent natural disasters.

The Mexican coffee community has been affected by multiple earthquakes, an

It's been nearly two weeks since Hurricane Maria roared through Puerto Rico, destroying much of the island’s infrastructure, with many rural areas rendered inaccessible by damage to roads and the scarcity of gasoline for vehicles.

A magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit Mexico City on 19 September, killing 366 people according to current report.

If you or someone you know in the Puerto Rican or Mexican coffee communities has been affected by the natural disasters, please get in touch with the SCA.

Coffee communities around the world are coming together to raise funds for general relief efforts.

To complement existing campaigns, the SCA is searching for organisations that are specifically working to support the coffee sector in each country.

“We hope to help amplify their message and connect them to professionals within the SCA’s membership who are willing and able to volunteer their skills and time to help the Puerto Rican and Mexican coffee communities recover,” the SCA said in a statement.

If you are a professional interested in supporting relief efforts for the coffee sectors in these two countries, please let SCA know by submitting your information via this form.

If you are the represented of an organisation providing support and relief to the coffee communities in Puerto Rico and Mexico, please get in touch by emailing the SCA at community@sca.coffee

SCA members will be updated with the latest on these efforts via email, social media, and on the SCA website www.scanews.coffee
