The Australian Coffee Championship Regional competitions have begun with four Northern Region Champions crowned.
David Teguh Kurniawan won the Vitasoy Northern Region Barista Championship and Marco Mak placed runner up in the competition, which took place from 23 to 24 April at Archer Specialty Coffee in Chermside, Queensland.
Katie Holman won the Northern Region’s Brewers Cup, with Dale Pollard in second place and Carlo Junior in third.
Amy Zhang won the Northern Region Latte Art Championship. Jake Yue Huang was runner up, and Ramon Marrero was third place, with competitors using Riverina Fresh, the official Milk Partner of the competition, to create creative and original latte art designs.
The fastest Cup Taster of the day was Karl Lee, correctly guessing eight out of eight triangulations of cups correctly, helping secure the win ahead of Dihn Van in second place and Michael Pollock in third place. Minas Hill Coffee supplied the coffees as the official Australian Green Bean partner for the competition.
Throughout the weekend’s event, all competitors used Mythos M1 grinders supplied from Victoria Arduino as the official Coffee Grinder sponsor and Cafetto product as the qualified cleaning Product Partner.
The Central Region Coffee Championships will next take place from 21 to 22 May at Grinders in Leichhardt, New South Wales.
The combined Southern and Western Coffee Championships will take place in Melbourne in June 2022.
