New Zealand’s best coffee cuppers will test their palates, speed and accuracy when they compete in the 2018 New Zealand Cup Tasters Championship on 27 July.
Commencing at 5.30pm at L’affare Melrose, the event has attracted the largest field of entries to date, with 33 competitors set to take to the stage, representing companies in Auckland, Hamilton, North Shore, Nelson, Waikato, New Plymouth, Wellington, and Christchurch.
The Championship is held in strict accordance with World Coffee Event’s Rules and Regulations.
The objective of this competition is for the cupper to discriminate between the different coffees. Three cups are placed in a triangle, with two cups being identical coffees and one cup being a different coffee. Using skills of smell, taste, attention and experience, the cupper will identify the odd cup in the triangle as quickly as they can.
A total of eight triangles are placed in each round. The top four will compete again in the final round to determine the next New Zealand Cup Tasters Champion.
The winner will represent New Zealand in the World Cup Taster’s Championship, taking place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil during International Coffee Week from 7 to 9 November 2018.
Spectator event entry is free.
The sponsors of the event include Cafetto, Ozone Coffee Roasters, Marco via L’affare, Amc Roastery Supply NZ, Acme & Co, Castaway and venue host L’affare.
