NZSCA opens entries to 2019 New Zealand Barista Championship

New Zealand Barista Championship

The New Zealand Specialty Coffee Association (NZSCA) is searching for the best baristas in the country to compete in the 2019 New Zealand Barista Championship at the Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre in Upper Hutt from 2 to 3 February.

Only 20 baristas will be chosen to compete in the New Zealand Barista Championship. In the event that there are more than 20 entrants, the NZSCA will conduct a selection process, awarding entry to those competitors it considers best able to excel in competition conditions. This means the information entrants provide at the time of entry is important to help the NZSCA make a sound selection.

The 2019 New Zealand Barista Champion will represent their country in the 2019 World Barista Championship in Boston, United States, from 11 to 14 April.

The highest placing first-time entrant will win a cash prize of NZ$2000 (about $1900).

The event will also include new awards for Outstanding Milk Beverage and Peoples’ Choice, with prizes announced soon.

The NZSCA is also looking for judges and volunteers for the event.
