Ona Coffee has announced a line-up of events the roaster will host at stand #63 at the 2019 Melbourne International Coffee Expo from 7 to 9 February.

On 7 February from 2pm to 5pm, Ona Coffee will hold tastings of its recent Cascara Cherry Bomb sour beer collaboration with Capital brewing Co.

Ona Coffee says Cascara Cherry Bomb is brewed using dried coffee cherries and tastes like cherry pie.

The following day, Ona Coffee will see Danny Wilson, who placed third at the 2018 World Coffee in Good Spirits Championship (WCIGS), preparing two of his signature cocktails from the competition, the Thageini Fizz and Guji Cola.

The Guji Cola, consists of pineapple tepache syrup, Pedro Ximinez sherry, agricole rhum, soda water, and espresso.

“It highlights the vibrant tropical notes and sugary sweetness of the CM Selection Ethiopian coffee [I use in the cocktail] and gives off an amazing flavour of cola,” Danny says.

Both tasting events are restricted to people more than 18 years of age.

On the final day of MICE, founder and 2015 World Barista Champion Sasa Sestic will be on hand at Ona Coffee’s stand from 3pm to 5pm, where he will brew and talk about coffees processed using carbonic maceration.

Sasa was among the first in the coffee industry to utilise carbonic maceration techniques to process coffee, creating and developing new flavour profiles in various varietals.

His experiments have resulted in coffees used by other coffee competitors, including 2018 World Barista Champion, Agnieszka Rojewska and 2018 WBC sixth place winner, John Gordon.
