Gen Z is taking to the emerging coffee rave scene like a dog to a bone, but is the latest evolution of the sweeping trend set to also feature our four-legged friends?
On 17 May, Bondi Junction café Doglateria partnered with Spotify to throw what it is calling the first ever café rave for dogs – named the Woof Doof.
The free party took place between 9am-12pm, with the first 50 arrivals receiving special Spotify-themed dog merchandise and a free serve of Doglateria’s winter gelato.
The first 50 dogs onto the scene also received a coconut cream, muesli bar, peanut butter, honey, and carob powder concoction inspired by the humble acai bowl.
Doglateria Owner Oscar Vallejo told Today he believes the addition of dogs to the coffee rave scene is the natural extension of the new party movement.
“We were really excited about this collaboration with Spotify and we thought it was a great idea, as cafés in the area and around the world are playing rave music, so we thought we should not miss this [opportunity],” Oscar says.
No party is complete without a DJ, and Adam Thomas was on the decks to bring the party vibes to the event – all at a dog-friendly volume, of course.
Music was kept between 55-60 decibels to ensure the volume remained at a safe level for pups to let loose on the dance floor.
Oscar says the carefully curated Spotify playlist comprised tracks that are proven to be enjoyed by dogs.
“It’s been proven dogs love frequency beats like reggae, so we [had] a DJ with us playing all those tracks,” he says.
Just how far the reimagination of Australia’s rave culture can go remains to be seen, but if coffee, cafés, dogs and DJs continue to be involved, this rising trend could be here to stay.
